Alicante nears completion of a new park in La Torreta (PAU 2)

Alicante nears completion of a new park in La Torreta (PAU 2)

In Alicante, work is nearing completion on a new park in the La Torreta (PAU 2) area, offering a wide range of leisure options. This 20,000 m² green space will soon open to visitors and will feature a stage, children’s play areas, a zip line, sports areas, large slides and a dog exercise area.

For visitors to the city, the new park will offer another option for walking and active leisure beyond the beach area and historic centre. Those coming to Alicante for a few days or planning a family holiday can combine exploring these new urban spaces with a stay at Alicante Smart Hotel, using the hotel as a convenient base for exploring different parts of the city.

A total of €3,369,956 has been invested in completing the Isla de Corfú park, following an initial investment of €1.4 million. This leisure area forms part of a wider group of major projects that also includes the El Somni educational centre and a new health centre. These facilities are intended to meet the needs of this growing district, where 550 new homes are expected to be built, half of them social housing.

Play and sports areas at Isla de Corfú park

The park is practically complete – only the final details remain, together with time for the newly planted vegetation to become established. The park includes facilities designed for all local residents, especially children, with different play areas arranged across several levels.

Located between Avenida Isla de Corfú and Avenida Deportista Isabel Fernández, the large park includes:

  • a stage with grandstand seating;
  • 3 children’s play areas, including a 28-metre zip line and playgrounds adapted for children with disabilities;
  • 9 large slides that make it possible to move between different elevations in a playful way;
  • a sports area including a calisthenics zone;
  • an exercise circuit for recreational fitness;
  • petanque courts;
  • a climbing wall;
  • a dog exercise area;
  • green areas with landscaped hedges.

Throughout the park there are areas with street furniture where visitors can rest, as well as shaded corners. One of its main features, however, is the number and variety of spaces dedicated to leisure and sports activities, including an open-air stage with grandstand seating.

This type of space is particularly attractive for families visiting Alicante with children: the new park complements the city’s traditional tourist routes and offers the chance to spend part of the day outdoors, combining walking, play and physical activity. For guests staying at Alicante Smart Hotel, it offers another idea for discovering a more contemporary side of Alicante independently.

Slides, zip line and routes between the terraces

The zip line and slides, located on the slopes separating the park’s terraces, create an alternative route designed especially for younger visitors. The slides connect the upper viewing area with a pit covered with rounded pebbles, where the zip line is located. This creates a playful experience that enriches the route through the park and provides an entertaining transition between the different levels of the terrain.

In addition, climbing ropes have been installed along the sides of the slide, parallel to the slopes, allowing visitors to climb upwards by holding onto them. This solution not only provides a playful and dynamic alternative for moving through the park, but also encourages physical activity and interactive play, enriching the visitor experience and encouraging participation among people of different ages and abilities.

Landscaping of the new park

When planting trees and hedges, their arrangement was designed to highlight the diversity of the different spaces, grouping species according to colour, flowering season and compatibility with one another. The idea is for the garden to offer visitors a changing visual route, with each area distinguished by a predominant plant colour, creating a dynamic and visually rich environment throughout the year.

The opening of Isla de Corfú will expand the range of outdoor leisure spaces in Alicante and make the city even more interesting for visitors who come not only for the sea, but also want to discover its everyday life, modern neighbourhoods and new public spaces.
